Syria Taking Part in 63rd Session of WHO Regional Committee for Eastern Mediterranean in Cairo
CAIRO, (ST)-Meetings of the 63rd Session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean kicked off on Monday at the Egyptian capital Cairo with the participation of the Syrian Arab Republic’s delegation led by Health Minister Nizar Yazigi.
The WHO Director General Margaret Chan talked in her opening speech about the health situation in the world and the WHO’s efforts to combat plagues and diseases, to maintain general health and to boost health systems.
Ala Alwan, the WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, focuses in his speech on the efforts being exerted in the Mediterranean region to combat diseases and provide all-out health services.
Health Ministers and representatives of 22 WHO member countries, besides a number of health experts and specialists are taking part in the 4-day event. Participants aim to draw up features of the regional policies to maintain general health and confront dangerous diseases.
Yazigi: Efforts to meet needs of Syrian health sector in the light of the western economic sanctions, terrorist attacks
Syrian Health Minister, Nizar Yazigi, arrived Saturday in Cairo, heading Syria’s delegation to participate in the 63rd session of World Health Organization’s (WHO) Regional Committee for Eastern Mediterranean.
Yazigi is expected to meet a number of senior officials and participants of the session to shed light on the impacts of the ongoing crisis in Syria on the process of providing health care for the Syrians.
In a statement to SANA upon his arrival in Cairo yesterday, Yazigi said his participation comes within the framework of enhancing efforts to ensure the needs of the health sector in Syria, particularly in the light of the western economic sanctions and the continuous systematic terrorist attacks against health infrastructure.
It is also an opportunity to exchange experience with other delegations and to search for best methods of boosting procedures to maintain general health.
