Russia’s Air Force Operations in Syria Prove Russian Federation’s Credibility Regarding Terrorism Fighting

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Russia’s contribution to fighting terrorism in Syria came at the Syrian Arab Republic’s request that gives this contribution constitutional legitimacy, a source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has underlined, stressing that this contribution goes in harmony with the International Law.  

In a statement on Sunday marking one year after Russia launched its aerial anti-terror operation in Syria, the source said “the operations carried out by the Russian air forces in cooperation with its Syrian counterpart have been effective in fighting terrorist organizations like ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusraa and their affiliated takfiri groups. They proved the seriousness and credibility of the Russian Federation in countering terrorism, particularly because these operations were launched in coordination with the Syrian government which has been fighting terrorism for more than five years.”

 The source went on to say that the Russian military operation has contributed to controlling ISIS activities of stealing the Syrian oil, thereby depriving the terrorist organization from one of its main financial resources.

The Russian military support in the fight against terrorism in Syria has tightened the siege on the terrorist organizations and prevented the spread of terrorism to other countries after it has become clear that terrorism has become a serious threat to peace, security and stability in the region and the entire world, according to the source.

The source pointed out that the Russian military anti-terror efforts in Syria embody the strategic relation between the two friendly countries which has not been confined to military support but has been expanded to include coordination in political action that seeks finding political solution to the crisis in Syria.

The source concluded the statement by stressing Syria’s gratitude to the Russia Federation, people and leadership, for the military, political and economic support as to help eliminate terrorism in Syria, enhance the Syrians’ steadfastness and contribute to restoring security and stability all over the Syrian Arab Republic.
