Syrian Government Reaffirms Illegitimacy of US-Led International Coalition

DAMASCUS, (ST)-The destruction of  two main bridges on the Euphrates River in the countryside of Deir Ezzor by US-led international coalition warplanes’ airstrikes confirms the coalition’s policy of targeting and destroying the infrastructure as well as the economic and social facilities in Syria via repeated attacks allegedly aiming to fight ISIS, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

In two identical letters addressing the UN Chief and President of the Security Council on Thursday, the ministry said the American coalition’s intentional destruction of the two bridges comes after the US-led coalition had launched aggression on a Syrian Army position in Deir Ezzor that led to the martyrdom and wounding of tens of military personnel. The attack affirms the coalition’s policy in targeting the state’s infrastructure as well as the economic and social facilities.

The ministry added that “the only beneficiary from the coalition’s attacks is the terrorist extremist organizations, mainly “ISIS” and “Jabhat al-Nusra” which are seeking disseminating chaos and destruction all over the Syrian Arab Republic,” pointing out that developments prove that the United States is unserious about confronting such terrorist organizations.

“The government of the Syrian Arab Republic reaffirms the illegitimacy of the so-called “International Coalition” led by Washington, because it was established out of international legitimacy in violation of the principles and goals of the UN Charter and because it has carried out its activities without coordination and cooperation with the Syrian government,” the ministry said.

The Syrian government urges  the Security Council to condemn the coalition’s aggression and put pressure on the coalition’s member states to stop their intentional destruction of the Syrian infrastructure and respect international law and UN resolutions relating to fighting terrorism.
