DAMASCUS-The Chinese Embassy in Damascus Thursday evening held a reception ceremony to celebrate the 60th foundation anniversary of the Syrian-Chinese diplomatic ties and to mark the 67th anniversary of the foundation of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
The ceremony was attended by Vice President Najah al-Attar, senior Baath Party officials, People’s Assembly Speaker, the presidential political and media advisor and a number of ministers.
The newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Syria Qi Qianjin affirmed that the Syrian-Chinese relations embodied the principle of cooperation and mutual interests, noting that Syria was among the first countries that established diplomatic ties with China.
“China and Syria have supported each others in the confrontation of imperialism, colonialist forces and all schemes targeting national independence of both countries, Qianjin said, adding that economic cooperation and trade exchange continued even after the eruption of the crisis in Syria.
Qianjin pointed out that the Chinese government and people feel sorry for Syria’s huge losses because of terrorism which has become a threat to the entire humanity.
“China supports Syria’s efforts to eliminate terrorism and defend it sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity,” the Chinese ambassador said, noting that his country “is getting ready to play bigger and special role in finding a solution to the crisis in Syria and in providing more humanitarian aid to the Syrian people.”
“The Chinese government insists that political solution is the only way out of the crisis in Syria. It also stresses the need to respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity besides the Syrian people’s right to determine their future themselves,” Qianjin added.
On his part, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Sausan said that today’s celebration indicates the strong determination of the life-loving Syrian people to keep steadfast and continue the fight against takfiri terrorism and enemies of life.
“The support of friendly countries like Russia, China, Iran and other countries that believe in real democracy has enhanced the Syrians’ steadfastness and helped them withstand the terrorist war, Sausan asserted,
He hailed the deeply-rooted Syrian-Chinese relations which have been based on mutual respect, commitment to international law, non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs and belief in a world where justice, security and stability prevail.
Sausan expressed Syria’s gratitude to China for its support against the ongoing terrorist aggression, stressing that this support has confirmed the deep relations between the two countries and gone in harmony with China’s policy of backing the free will and national sovereignty of peoples.
