Appointment of UN Special Rapporteur Unacceptable, Says Larijani

Appointment of any UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran is unjustifiable and unacceptable, the Secretary of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights Mohammad Javad Larijani said on Saturday.

Iran’s basic position towards appointment of a special rapporteur with a country mandate is that such measures is the result of certain states’ double standards and selective approaches in the framework of the UN Human Rights Council, he said.

The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, Ahmed Shaheed, said in his twitter account on Wednesday that Pakistani human rights activist Asma Jahangir will replace him.

Shaheed said Jahangir will start her work in November.

Iran restores pre-sanctions quota serving market stability

In another development, Deputy Minister of Petroleum for International Affairs and Trading Amir-Hossein Zamaninia said on Saturday that Iran restores pre-sanctions quota serving stability of the oil market.

He said Iran cooperates with OPEC on condition that its quota reaches the pre-sanctions level.

He made clear that there will be no market stability if a country wishes to produce to its maximum capacity.

Zamaninia was speaking after the meeting of Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zanganeh and Algerian Minister of Energy Noureddine Bouterfa.

He said the talks between the two sides figured prominently about OPEC, mutual petrochemical and LNG cooperation.

He added that market stability and talks on the upcoming non-official OPEC session on the sidelines of the IEF in Algiers and oil price were on the agenda of negotiations.
