Health Ministry Receives Medicines Shipment from Cuba

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Within Cuba’s keenness on supporting the steadfastness of the Syrian people in the face of the terrorist war and western sanctions, a medicines shipment of vaccines sent by Cuba arrived at Damascus International Airport on Monday as a first batch within the framework of the Syrian-Cuban agreement on banking arrangements to settle Cuba’s debts to Syria.

 Talking to reporters, Transport Minister Ali Hamoud said the Ministry has finished all customs clearance, packaging and transportation measures to ensure the arrival of the shipment without delays and under the supervision and standards of the Health Ministry.

He highly appreciated the support of the friendly country of Cuba for the Syrian people’s steadfastness.

According to Deputy Health Minister Huda al-Sayyed, the shipment, which weighs 2 tones, included 200,000 doses of vaccines, noting that more batches agreed on by concerned parties in the two countries will be sent soon to Syria.

The Cuban Ambassador in Damascus Rogerio Manuel Santana Rodriguez hailed the deeply-rooted ties between Syria and Cuba, asserting that the two countries are facing a common enemy, which is the enemy of the entire humanity.

 He pointed out that the siege imposed on Cuba by the United States for decades has led the country to depend on its own potentials and become a notable producer of medicines of excellent quality.

Last April, Syria and Cuba signed an agreement on banking arrangement to settle Cuba’s debts to Syria. The two sides also signed deals to import medicines and other pharmaceutical products from Cuban companies.
