UN relations with Iran ‘very strong’ – UN official

On the other hand, the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Tehran Gary Lewis said the relationship that the UN has with the government of President Rouhani is very strong and quite positive.

Lewis made the remarks during an exclusive interview with IRNA on Monday.

‘Many international communities are reassured by the approach being taken by the current government of President Rouhani.

‘Most quarters of the international community are very reassured by the progress that has been made on what is arguably the most important achievement of MrRouhani’s administration in international terms that was JCPOA,’ said the UN official.

Iran and the six world powers reached a landmark nuclear agreement (known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)) on July 14, 2015.

As he said, after the JCPOA ‘The overall tone of the diplomacy surrounding Iran is changed dramatically.’

‘The JCPOA has transformed the regional dynamics significantly. It has actually been the result of true diplomacy,’ he stressed.

He further added, ‘Credit must be given to both sides of it.’

The UN official also responded to IRNA questions on other issues such as the environment, water problems, Mina tragedy, Yemen and extremism in the world. The interview was held on the occasion of the national Government Week in Iran started on August 23.
