Turkish MPs Suggest Forming Turkish-Syrian Parliamentary Friendship Committee to Coordinate Anti-Terror Efforts

ANKARA, (ST)- Members of the Turkish Parliament for the Republican People’s Party (CHP) have suggested the formation of a Syrian-Turkish parliamentary friendship committee with the participation of all parties represented in the parliament as soon as possible.

Serkan Topal, a Turkish MP for the CHP, said “it has become necessary to seek joint protection of borders and to work as to eliminate terrorist organizations which pose serious threat to both the Syrian and Turkish states.” He stressed the need to have direct cooperation and coordination between the governments of the two countries with the support of the parliamentarians of both sides as to achieve the hoped-for goal in eliminating the terrorists.

 Torpal expected the committee to be formed soon, pointing out that he didn’t notice any objection by the foreign relations committee’s members for the ruling Justice and Development party to this suggestion.

He cited head of the foreign relations committee Taha Ozhan, a Justice and Development Party member, as saying that he wasn’t against the suggestion and he would discuss the issue with concerned parties so as to make a decision on it in the committee’s next meeting.

CHP and some other Turkish parties have affirmed that the Turkish regime has been supporting and financing the terrorist organizations in Syria and that they warned this regime that this support will backfire on Turkey.
