Syrian Phoenix Campaign Honors Martyrs of Syrian Mass Media

DAMASCUS – The Syrian Phoenix Campaign, in cooperation with the Information Ministry, organized on Wednesday an event to honor the martyrs of Syrian mass media at the Opera House in Damascus, SANA reported.

In a speech, Information Minister Mohammad Ramez Tourjman said that the martyred Syrian journalists gave their lives for the sake of relaying the truth, and that the unjust war imposed on Syria used misdirection and propaganda and then targeted journalists in a bid to target Syria’s society.

In turn, People’s Assembly member Aref al-Tawil thanked Syrian mass media establishments and field reporters who risk their lives to relay the truth and cover the battle against terrorism.

The event included screening a documentary on martyred journalists and singing performance by Syrian child Rayan Chamiyeh.

In a statement to journalists after the event, Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad voiced pride in Syrian mass media, lauding the Syrian Phoenix Campaign’s initiative.

Mikdad said that mass media is essential in informing public opinion about facts and confronting misleading and disingenuous propaganda.
