BERLIN, (ST)- Settlement of the crisis in Syria is impossible without the help of Russia and major players in the Middle East, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said in an interview with the Bild newspaper published on Tuesday.
“We do not have any illusions about Russia’s role in Syria,” Steinmeier said, adding that the end of the crisis in the country is impossible without Moscow, as well as without Iran, Saudi Arabia or Turkey.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel had stressed that the crisis in Syria can only be political through dialogue among all the Syrian parties, pointing out that political solution would lead to progress in the process of terrorism fighting.
On the other hand, Steinmeier ruled out the idea of establishing a new military alliance between Russia and Turkey despite the rapprochement between the two countries.
