Minister of Culture Mohammad al-Ahmad has declared that Syria’s visual arts sum up its history and civilization.
His remark was made during the opening ceremony of the exhibition held yesterday in the ‘al-Sha’eb’ Gallery in Damascus within the activities of the 5th oil painting forum kicked off last Wednesday in the Citadel of Damascus under the title “Syria is the bridge of love”.
He distributed certificates of appreciation among the participants in the forum for their role in representing civilization and creativity in Syria and for going ahead with their works in the country despite the terror war on it, according to the official news agency (SANA).
The agency quoted Mrs. Sarab al-Safadi, who took part in the exhibition, as saying that her paintings depicted the suffering of woman in Syria during the crisis and the unwillingness of two women to see what is going on in the country.
On July 27, artist Asmaa Fayoumi told SANA that she will make two paintings depicting the human being’s meditation to the current situation, employing vibrant and joyful colors in hope of restoring happiness to Syria, noting that her works during the crisis tended to be sad and depressing and more dramatic.
While Director of the Applied Arts Institute Talal Beitar, who is one of the participants, said that this forum is organized annually by the Culture Ministry in cooperation with the Institute in Damascus Citadel.
About 10 Syrian visual artists took part in the exhibition after they made their paintings in the citadel of Damascus during the oil painting forum.
