President Al-Assad : US Policy in the Region Contradicts American People’s Interests

DAMASCUS, (ST)-President Bashar Al-Assad has stressed that the US administration’s policy in the Middle East contradicts the interests and values of the American people as it tends to be increasingly violent and illogical.

Meeting the visiting US Peace Council delegation led by the Council’s Executive Committee’s Member Henry Lowendorf on Thursday, President Al-Assad said the role of the United States, as a super power, should be positive and based on disseminating knowledge, culture and technology instead of chaos and destruction in other countries of the world.

President Al-Assad briefed the guest delegation on events in Syria , clarifying that the main reason behind creating the crisis, which developed later into a war on the Syrian people, was Syria’s rejection to subjugate and play a role that doesn’t serve its people’s interests.

On their part, members of the delegation said they visited Syria to know what is really going on in the country and to convey their image to the US public opinion. They added they would tell the Americans about their meetings in Damascus and about the support of the Syrian people to their government.

The delegation members asserted that they will spare no effort as to contribute to stopping the war on Syria and halting the US and Western interference in the country’s affairs.

They affirmed that they rejected the US policies of waging wars and interfering in the affairs of other countries including Syria, vowing effective work to change these wrong policies.

President Al-Assad hailed such important visits and noted that they can help governments make shifts and correct their policies if they are willing to.
