Premier: Fighting Terrorism, Enhancing Reconciliation and Caring for Martyrs’ Families and Wounded Soldiers Top Priorities

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Beside fighting terrorism, the new Syrian government will adopt the issues of supporting the steadfastness of Syrian people and improving their living conditions, enhancing security, attaining national reconciliation and caring for martyrs families and injured army personnel as its top priorities, Prime Minister Imad Khamis underlined on Monday during the People’s Assembly (PA) 8th session dedicated for discussing the new government’s ministerial statement which outlines the work program of the government in the coming era.

 “Starting from the principle of preserving the state’s national sovereignty, the government will continue fighting terrorism wherever it exists on the Syrian land and will help confront its danger outside the Syrian territories,” said the premier.

He went on to say that special care will be accorded to martyrs’ families and wounded soldiers. Besides, focus will be put on relief and sheltering activities in response to the humanitarian needs of displaced citizens, he added.

Creating Job Opportunities

Alleviating poverty and providing job opportunities through different means including supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, will also be one of the government’s targets to improve the living and socio-economic conditions of citizens, according to Khamis.

He pointed out the government seeks overcoming obstacles hindering the process of political, economic, social and cultural reconstruction.

Enhancing International Cooperation

As regards consolidating Syria’s foreign policy and international cooperation opportunities, Khamis said “despite the heinous war and the unjust unilateral sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, the Syrian state has managed to retain very important channels concerning foreign policy and international cooperation.” He added  that the government will focus on consolidating Syria’s presence at all international forums and on strengthening alliances and coordination with international cooperation partners in political, military, economic and relief fields.

Boosting cooperation with friendly media institutions  

In the area of media, Khamis said the government stressed that it will concentrate on coordination and integration with friendly media institutions at the regional and international levels as to uncover and confront the takfiri terrorist mentality wherever it is.
