DAMASCUS, (ST)- President Bashar Al-Assad has underscored that one of the main goals of the unprecedented terrorist aggression on Syria is to disseminate takfiri and extremist thinking in order to hit the cohesive diverse social fiber which has distinguished Syria throughout history.
President Al-Assad made the remarks during his meeting on Monday with Archbishop of Nova Justiniana and All Cyprus Chrysostomos II and the accompanying delegation. Talks dealt with the situation in Syria, the distinguished historical relations between Syria and Cyprus and ways of boosting bilateral ties in all domains.
The hard circumstances the Syrian people have been experiencing have strengthened their adherence to their society’s diversity and unity, said President Al-Assad.
On his part, Archbishop Chrysostomos II affirmed the need to enhance his country’s relations with Syria for the interest of the peoples of both countries.
“All European countries need to reconsider their relations with Syria and lift the unjust siege which has worsened the suffering of the Syrian people,” Chrysostomos II said.
He pointed out that the Syrian people’s steadfastness and adherence to their homeland was so strong to confirm that the Syrians’ are confidently proceeding with their battle to get out of the crisis and triumph over terrorism.
The Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East John X Yazigi attended the meeting.
