Russian long-range bombers hit ISIS targets east of Palmyra

Moscow – Six Russian Tu-22M3 long-range strategic bombers hit ISIS targets in Syria, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry said Russian bombers hit ISIS targets in al-Sukhnah, Arak and al-Tiba to the east of Tadmur (Palmyra) city in Homs countryside, SANA reported.

Two command centers and camouflaged military equipment were destroyed and terrorists were killed in the airstrikes, according to the statement.

“To improve the efficiency of the disclosure of terrorist group targets and the accuracy of determining their origin, reconnaissance was intensified in the area, including space-based reconnaissance. Due to intensified intelligence, new terrorist targets were detected and destroyed,” the statement read.

It confirmed that the aircrafts returned safely to airfields in Russia after carrying out airstrikes, pointing out that Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets that took off from the Hmeimim airbase provided fighter cover to the long-range bombers.
