President Al-Assad to New Government: Improving Citizens’ Living Conditions Must Be among Government’s Priorities

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Members of the newly-formed Syrian government headed by Imad Mohammad Deib Khamis were sworn in on Monday before President Basher Al-Assad.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, President Al-Assad met with the new government members and urged them to spare no effort as to ease the negative repercussions of the crisis on the citizens.

The difficult circumstances in the country add more responsibilities on the government’s team and necessitate extraordinary efforts by all to meet people’s needs as much as possible, President Al-Assad said.

 He urged continuous and direct contact with citizens to know about their suffering and problems and called on media institutions to tackle citizens’ problems and concerns not only to be the mouthpiece of the government.

“Improving the Living condition of citizens must be one of the priorities of the government,” asserted President Al-Assad, noting that focus should be made on controlling prices in cooperation with the local community, on maintaining the Syrian pound’s value, enhancing the state resources, encouraging exportation, supporting small and medium-sized industries and controlling expenditure.

The Economic File

According to President Al-Assad, the most important issue in  the economic file is reconstruction. He affirmed the need to concentrate on building and reconstruction projects which would immediately operate the country’s economic wheel and would reflect positively on people’s life.

Martyrs families and wounded army personnel

President Al-Assad also said that the government must accord special attention to the martyrs’ families and to wounded army personnel through commitment to giving them all their rights by means of simple and fast procedures, in addition to preparing studies on what could be provided to support national projects dedicated to injured people, like “The Homeland’s Wounded” project which supports the injured, helps them acquire their rights, rehabilitates them, empowers them to reintegrate into society, and provides them with constant care.

On their part, the prime minister and several ministers asserted that the difficult conditions caused by the terrorist war imposed on the Syrian people have strengthened their determination to work harder as to find solutions and ease the citizens’ suffering.
