Terror attacks killed 119 students, employees in Damascus University

Terror attacks have killed at least 119 students and employees of Damascus University (DU) since the start of the war on Syria in 2011, according to the ‘Thawra’ newspaper.

The paper quoted the Rector of DU Mohammad Hassan al-Kurdi as saying: “Terrorist organizations sought to stop education process in the university through firing rockets and mortars on several faculties, but they failed.”

 Al-Kurdi’s remark was made during a ceremony held Friday to honour the martyrs’ relatives where honorary bachelor degrees in the name of students, who were  martyred in the terror attacks, plus sums of money were given to the relatives of the martyrs.

Chairman of the Martyrs’ Office in the DU Ayham al-Horani said that the university holds several activities to back the martyrs’ families. “The university will name all studying halls after the martyrs.

On their parts, the martyrs’ relatives said that the ceremony reflects the DU’s interest in martyrs and their relatives.

Since 2011, Syria has faced a foreign-backed terror war targeting its army, people, civilization and infrastructure.
