Islam Has Always Been against Extremism: Awqaf Minister

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Minister of Awqaf (Religious Endowments) Mohammad Abdul Sattar Al-Sayyed on Tuesday stressed that Islam has always fought intellectual and ideological extremism, pointing out that takfirism and terrorism have nothing to do with the tolerant religion of Islam.

“Ignorance about religion would lead to sectarianism and fanaticism, said the minister in a statement on Eid al-Fitr, asserting that Islam has achieved the difficult equation which is unity based diversity.

He added that the virus of takfirism, hitting Moslems, has crippled the Islamic nation’s project and driven its attention away from its battle against its real enemies mainly global Zionism.

Al-Sayyed talked about the sublime meanings of the holy month of Ramadan, saying that Ramadan enhances people’s noble values, encourages tolerance and amity and forbids killing.
