Shaaban: Late Leader Hafez Al-Assad Made Syria Key Regional and International Player

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban, the Presidential Political and Media Advisor, has stressed that late President Hafez  Al-Assad made Syria a key player at the regional and international arenas,

During a symposium marking the 16th anniversary of the passing away of late leader Hafez Al-Assad, Shaaban affirmed that the Syrian people will continue to be adherent to the legacy of the late leader who made Syria a key player in the regional and international equations through his principles stances, his  refusal to concede an inch of the occupied lands and his sought to unify Arab stances on just Arab causes.

  Shaaban asserted that the Syrians won’t be subjugated to the West and that maintaining national interest will keep being their priority.

She pointed out that the organizations and institutions established by the late President are still working and all have proved during the ongoing crisis that they were build on solid bases.

“President Hafez Al-Assad was an example to follow in his national stances, dedication and amity to his homeland  and people,” Shaaban said.

She noted that the obsession of the international media “is how to satisfy the West, so it rewarded the countries that implement western schemes and serve the interests of west.”

“We learnt from late leader Hafez Al-Assad and from President Bashar Al-Assad how to give no heed to what the West say about us and how to make our national interest a top priority,” Shaaban added.

During the symposium, a documentary depicting major stops in the life of late President Hafez Al-Assad was screened, highlighting events like the Movement of Correction, October Liberation War and other important events in Syria’s history until 2000, the year President Hafez Al-Assad passed away.
