Military Coordination between Syria, Iran and Russia Important to Eliminate Terrorism

TEHRAN, (ST)- Military and political coordination between Syria, Iran and Russia in the fight against takfiri terrorism is a necessity to end the war and stop bloodshed in Syria, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani stressed during his meeting with Syria’s Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Fahd Jasem al-Freij on Friday in Tehran.

Shamkhani, who reiterated Iran’s firm support for Syria to uproot terrorism, said “Syria has been turned into a battle field to fight very dangerous sedition that may spread to the entire world if not foiled.”

Shamkhani hailed the successive victories of the Syrian Arab Army and its allied forces in the battle to liberate different areas from terrorists.

According to the Iranian official, the unconstructive political policy of the United States and its allies in the West and the region on the crisis in Syria has sharpened political and military tension in the country. He said that supporting  terrorist groups while at the same time introducing political initiatives to settle the crisis in Syria shows evident contradiction that raises questions about the credibility of these countries.

Shamkhani underlined the need to continue the intra-Syrian talks to reach political solution agreed upon by all the Syrians to settle the crisis.

On his part, al-Freij thanked Leader of the Iranian Islamic Revolution, Iranian government and the Iranian people for supporting the Syrians in their struggle against terrorism. He said that the Syrian People and government are determined to combat terrorists till terrorism is completely eliminated.

Al-Freij described the tripartite meeting held yesterday between the defense ministers of Syria, Iran and Russia as “very successful”, pointing out the three sides decided to further enhance cooperation on counter-terrorism.
