Syrian Broadcaster Rasha Ali Takes Part in “The Queen” Show

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Syrian broadcaster Rasha Ali, along with four other Syrian participants, is taking part in “The Queen”, a unique competition TV show concerned in shedding light on successful social stories of Arab women and in providing psychological and social support for this important category of society.

Rasha is among 40 other Arab presenters taking part in “The Queen” which will be broadcast on more than 50 TV channels. Each contestant have to submit her project or initiative and the winner will get “The Queen” title and will receive support and necessary facilitation from the “Arab Women Campaign” to implement her project.

About her participation in the program, Rasha Ali said she is presenting an initiative called “Rouh” (Soul) focusing on providing social and psychological support for Arab women in general and for the Syrian women in particular.

The initiative focuses on establishing centers for social and psychological empowerment of Arab women, particularly those affected by wars in the Arab homeland, to help strengthen their confidence in their own skills and abilities and empower them economically as to become self-dependent within an eastern society burdened with old-fashioned social traditions and customs of which women are the major victim, according to Rasha.

“Rouh is an attempt to save Arab women from the extremism quagmire which prevailed in the Arab world because of the ongoing events,” Rahsa said, affirming that women are the most affected category under wars because they suffer the loss of husbands, bothers or sons, they find themselves alone to protect and run their families and, even more, they become sex slaves in markets produced by wars.

“We need to empower women and help enhance their self confidence if we want to build the future on right and solid bases,” Rasha told SANA, pointing out that Arab women haven’t been represented properly in the media. They were presented in such a way that doesn’t suit their history and role in society, so “the Queen” program will work to change the typical bad image of Arab women and highlight their success stories.

The 40 contestants, who represent media institutions that believe in media’s role in serving civil society, were chosen among thousands of participants who presented their projects and initiatives.

The program, which is launched by the General Union of Arab Producers, aims to present women in the way that suits their important role in development and in building societies.

Rasha Ali was graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Damascus University and is working as a broadcaster at Talaqi TV.

In 2014, she won a Guinness Record award for co-presenting the longest marathon talk show in the world on the Syrian Talaqi TV.
