Security Council Condemns Terrorist Attacks in Jableh and Tartous
New YORK- The UN Security Council condemned in the strongest of terms the terrorist attacks that targeted the cities of Jableh and Tartous and that claimed scores of lives and injured many people, SANA reported.
A press statement from the Security Council prepared by the Russian delegation said that the Council members condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks that took place on May 23rd in the cities of Jableh and Tartous in Syria, attacks which ISIS claimed responsibility for.
The Security Council offered condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Syria, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
The Council members expressed concern over continuous terrorist operations by ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists, by their affiliated groups and by al-Qaeda-linked individuals, groups, and entities in Syria. They condemned the negative impact of those terrorists’ actions, presence, and violent, extremist ideology on the stability of Syria, neighboring countries, and the region as a whole. They also condemned the devastating humanitarian effect of these acts on civilians.
They stressed the need for all member states to abide by their obligations under resolution no. 2178 for 2014, affirming that terrorism in all its forms is one of the biggest threats to international peace and security, adding that terrorism cannot and must not be linked to any specific religion, nationality, or civilization.
The statement affirmed the need for bringing those who perpetrate, organize, fund, and sponsor such heinous terrorist acts to justice, stressing that all terrorist activities are criminal and unjustifiable acts regardless their motive, place, time and perpetrators.
The members asserted the need for all states to combat terrorism by all means in accordance with the UN Charter and international law. They also affirmed the need to adopt necessary measures as to control and put an end to the funding of terrorist organization.
The members also affirmed their strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Syria.

World Health Organization condemns terrorist attack against Jableh National Hospital
The World Health Organization (WHO) also condemned the bombing that targeted Jableh National Hospital on May 23rd and that resulted in killing and injuring a number of medical staff, patients, and patients’ family members.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the WHO said that targeting the hospital is a violation of international law and a serious setback for affected local communities, in addition to being an extra challenge for humanitarian work in Syria.
The WHO called for respecting the safety of health workers, health facilities and the neutrality of the health sector. It also called for abiding by international humanitarian law and taking all necessary precautionary measures.

Pope Prays for Victims of Terrorist Attacks in Syria
Also Pope Francis prayed for eternal rest to the victims of the recent terrorist bombings which took place in Tartous and Jableh.
During his weekly audience in St. Peter’s Square, the Pope said that almost all the victims are “unarmed civilians”, asking the faithful people gathering in the square to pray for the victims and offered condolences to the families of martyrs.
