200.000 youths to be trained on Sport for Development program

By the end of this year, 200.000 young persons in nine Syrian provinces are due to be trained on how to use sport to develop the skills of the children affected by the 62-month-long crisis and to integrate them within society.

The Sport of Development program was launched by the Syrian Commission for Family Affairs last July, according to the official news agency (SANA), which quoted the trainer Nour Abo Assafas saying that she succeeded in integrating a lot of displaced children in Sweida Province and in making changes in their life through the program.

The program is based on enhancing positive communication with society and encouraging creativity and criticism as well as resolving problems and making decisions through sport activities, the trainer Mohammad al-Hussien clarified.

While the trainer Isam al-Dahmash asserted the importance of giving teenagers an opportunity to discover their personal strengths and to rebuild their personalities based on sound scientific grounds.

Last Sunday, the Syrian Commission for Family Affairs held a workshop on Sport for Development Program in cooperation with the UNICEF.

The five-day workshop aims to train young persons on the program that aims to enhance social values through sport activities targeting persons aged 11-22, the Director of Family Affairs in the commission Rana Khlifawi said.

Recently, the commission prepared a study on situation of youths in Syria in order to crystallize the foundations of the national plan for youths.
