Russia to Focus on Closing Turkish-Syrian Borders at Vienna ISSG Meeting: Zaspkin

BEIRUT, (ST)- During the meeting of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) in Vienna on Tuesday, Russia is to concentrate on the issue of closing the Turkish-Syrian borders as to put an end to the flow of terrorists and weapons into the Syrian territories across the Turkish borders, Russia’s Ambassador in Beirut Alexander Zaspkin has stressed.

 In a press conference following his meeting with the Lebanese Foreign Minister Jibran Pasil, Zaspkin said the Russian focus will also be made on the need to differentiate between the armed groups which announced their commitment to the cessation of hostilities agreement on the one hand and the terrorists on the other.

Russia will also focus on assessing the humanitarian situation in Syria, particularly because some anti-Syria parties keep hindering aid deliveries, on issues relating to the kidnapped and the missing and on expanding the Syrian opposition representation with reference to the participation of the Kurds in the in the intra-Syrian talks, according to Zaspkin.

The Russian diplomat referred to the Russian-American coordination to make the Vienna ISSG meeting useful as regards speeding up the intra-Syrian dialogue.
