Kurz: What is Going on in Syria is a “Proxy War”

VIENNA, (ST)-Austria’s Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz has stressed that what is going on in Syria is a proxy war, hoping that Vienna meeting of the “International Syria Support Group” (ISSG) will succeed in achieving progress in the process of finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria.

In a statement to the Austrian “Die Presse” newspaper, Kurz said the meeting of the foreign ministers of 20 countries in Vienna to discuss the situation in Syria would contribute to reach positive results leading to end the crisis in the country.

“The opportunity is available for all regional parties to sit to the dialogue table to discuss ways to support the cessation of hostilities in Syria and reach a solution to the crisis there,” Kurz added.

The Austrian top diplomat went on to say that “Turkey won’t be an exception and its citizens won’t be granted exemption from visa to enter the European Union countries unless the Turkish government implements its obligations regarding the refugee issue, refrains from exploiting the counter-terrorism law to violate human rights, stops haunting opposition figures and oppressing press freedom and puts an end to violence in Turkey.”
