JCPOA Great Historic Event, Says Jahangiri

First Vice – President Eshaq Jahangiri described the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as a great historical and rare event in the history of the country and negotiations with world countries, according to IRNA.

‘JCPOA was achieved in view of Supreme Leader’s guidelines and management of the president and efforts of his negotiating team,‘ Jahangiri said on Sunday, addressing heads of Iran’s diplomatic missions in foreign countries and foreign ministry officials.

Jahangiri pointed to the difficult economic conditions during sanctions era, and said, ‘One of the orientations of the government during the sanctions era was to be able to overcome the economic woes and the government has this capability to administer the country’s economic affairs even if the sanctions will not be resolved.’

The first vice president underlined that nothing is more important for Iran than transiting from the economic bottlenecks, and said, ‘The country’s economy should grow and become big in a bid to enable us to overcome the economic problems.’

US, European banks must take practical steps to implement JCPOA

Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Minister for Europe-American Affairs Majid Takht-e Ravanchi said on Sunday that negotiations of US Secretary of State John Kerry and European banks are something positive, but Iran expects practical steps to be taken by the parties to JCPOA.

He told IRNA that according to the media reports, negotiations between John Kerry and the European Banks has been totally not bad, but it is important to see what would happen in practice.

Answering a question about whether or not the Europeans have requested guarantee from Iran, Ravanchi said it is not correct and the matter does not concern Iran.

He said that in the banking business, the two sides work with each other only upon appropriate economic elements.

Takht-e Ravanchi said that such demand for guarantee is meaningless.

One of media quoting informed sources in Tehran wrote on Sunday that a number of European bankers sent informal message that they are ready to restart banking trade with Iran if Tehran undertakes to compensate their penalties by the US.

Concerning reopening Canada embassy in Tehran, Takht-e Ravanchi said that Iranian Foreign Ministry held one round of talks with Canadians and the contacts will go on.

It is important that the Canadians take distance from extremist policies of the former Canadian government, he said.
