Workshop to train university students to provide psychological care for children in Syria

The Syrian Commission for Family Affairs and Population in cooperation with the UNICEF and the Higher Education Ministry held Monday a workshop on standards of psychological and social support for children during emergency situations.

The workshop aims to train several university students to provide psychological and social support for children affected by crisis that entered its sixth year in Syria.

During the opening ceremony at the Damascus University, Minister of Higher Education Dr. Mohammad Amer al-Mardini underlined the need to focus on psychological and social support for children through expanding cooperation between ministries and Non-Governmental Organizations.

He underscored the importance of integrating the principle of psychological and social support within the national plan and education.

On her part, chairperson of the commission Hadil al-Asmar said that the guide of ‘the standards of psychological and social support for children during emergency situations’- launched on April 10th2016-  is based on scientific and methodological foundations and it can be developed in accordance with requirements.
