Putin: Concerted efforts of the entire world necessary for effective fight against international terrorism

The global fight against terrorism has changed civilization, and the world’s vigorous efforts are needed to effectively wage this battle, President Vladimir Putin said.

MOSCOW-The concerted efforts of the entire world are necessary for the effective fight against international terrorism, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday.

“The issue of fight against international terrorism, which has taken an unprecedented scale and, in fact, challenged the civilization, is at the center of your agenda. Effective vigorous efforts of the whole world community are necessary to effectively fight against this global threat,” Putin’s address to the participants of the fifth Moscow Conference on International Security reads.

According to Putin, the Russian initiative to create a wide anti-terrorist front on a universal international legal basis and under the auspices of the UN aims to reach this goal.

He said that the Russian airstrikes against terrorists in Syria have dealt a severe blow to Deash and other terrorist groups, adding that the Russian military operation against terrorism in Syria created the suitable environment for the progress of the intra-Syrian dialogue aiming to reach political solution to the crisis in Syria.

Lavrov Calls to Stop Using Terrorists to Get Rid of Regimes

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also believes that usage of terrorists as a tool to get rid of “unwanted” political regimes should be stopped.

The usage of terrorist groups as a tool to implement certain political agendas or to get rid of the regimes that someone dislikes, should be decisively stopped, Lavrov said on Wednesday at the opening of the fifth Moscow Conference on International Security.

Syria Needs Peaceful Solution to Crisis through Dialogue: UN

Meanwhile, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security told Sputnik Wednesday on the sidelines of the fifth Moscow Conference on International Security that the bloodshed in Syria should be stopped via dialogue.

Syria needs peaceful solution to the crisis that should be reached through dialogue, Peter Thomas Drennan said

“For Syria we need to have a peaceful resolution to the conflict. And for UN we need to ensure there is access to the people that much need humanitarian aid. So it is a complex issue that needs to be resolved, but it needs to be resolved through a process of dialogue and resolve of conflict,” Drennan clarified.

He also noted that the Syrian talks in Geneva have paramount importance for settling the crisis in the country.

“What is important is that there are talks, and people continue to participate in those talks because that is the solution,” he stressed.

Fight against terrorism requires measures to prevent people from becoming terrorists, the official told Sputnik.

“Certainly, all countries are doing a lot, and certainly there is room to do more. What is really important is that all countries start to address the issues that lead to people becoming terrorists, dealing with fundamental issues. That’s what is important and where we need to work collectively,” Peter Thomas Drennan said.

Earlier in the day, the two-day MCIS started in Moscow. The agenda of the MCIS includes struggle with global terrorism, as well as security challenges in the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Europe and Central Asia.
