Failure of Security Council to Combat Terrorism Encourages Some Regimes to Persist in Supporting Terrorism

DAMASCUS-The Security Council’s failure to shoulder its responsibilities in combating terrorism and in taking deterring steps against the states and regimes that support and fund terrorism has allowed the Saudi and Turkish regimes to persist in supporting terrorism and shedding Syrian blood, a press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Tuesday, SANA reported.

Syria asserted that the terrorist attacks which targeted residential areas in Aleppo city and the terrorist bombing which took place in Damascus Countryside will not dissuade it from fighting terrorism and working to reach a political solution for the crisis via intra-Syrian dialogue, according to the press release.

The ministry said that terrorist groups affiliated with ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra escalated their attacks against Syrian civilians in various areas during the past few days, stressing that these terrorists’ incessant breaches of the cessation of hostilities agreement wouldn’t have happened if the international community had condemned prior breaches.

The statement said that terrorists fired on Monday April 25th dozens of rockets and explosive shells, claiming 16 lives and injuring 86, most of them women, children, and elderly people. It added that the terrorist attack which was carried out by a suicide bomber from ISIS in car bomb at the entrance of al-Diabiyeh town in Damascus Countryside killed 12 and injured 18, and these attacks add up to other terrorist attacks using rockets, mortars, and makeshift shells which targeted Damascus and Aleppo cities on Saturday and Sunday, claiming 11 lives and injuring 59 people.

The Ministry affirmed that the Syrian Arab Republic strongly condemns these attacks, and asserts that these breaches will not dissuade it from combating terrorism and at the same time working to reach a political solution for the crisis via intra-Syrian dialogue led by the Syrians.

The Ministry concluded by calling for uniting all countries’ efforts to fight terrorism which  poses serious threat not only to Syria but to the entire world.
