Syria in Group 1 of the final round of 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers

Kuala Lumpur – Syria’s national football team has been drawn into Group 1 of the final leg of the Asian qualifiers of FIFA World Cup together with the teams of Iran, China, Uzbekistan, South Korea and Qatar.

2018 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to be organized in Russia.

The draw, held at the headquarters of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in Kuala Lumpur Tuesday, slotted teams of Australia, Japan, Iraq, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Thailand in Group 2.

 The third and final phase of the competitions is scheduled to start on September 1st and will last through September 2017.

According to qualification system, the two top-ranked teams of each group qualify for the finals, SANA reported.

Syria’s football team qualified for the finals of AFC Asian Cup and the final round of qualifiers to FIFA World Cup among the top four second-ranked teams within the eight groups.

 This is the second time the team has qualified for the final leg of Asian qualifiers of FIFA World Cup. The previous time was at the qualifiers for 1986 FIFA World Cup Mexico.
