Arab, foreign reporters: Syrian parliamentary elections reflect people’s adherence to concept of state

 Some Arab and foreign reporters covering the parliamentary elections in Syria have underscored that the Syrian people challenge the whole world and take part in combating terrorism through their participation in the elections.

Director-General of the Lebanese al-Resaleh radio Talal Hattom told the al-Thawra newspaper on Tuesday that the Syrian people insist on holding the parliamentary elections in accordance with the constitution in order to say that they have the will to live and they adhere to the concept of state irrespective of difficulties.

 “The Syrian people’s turnout at the elections during this difficult political period reflects their challenge to the whole world,” he added, saluting the Syrian Arab army and the internal security forces that are defending the country.

Syrian youths’ optimism

On her part, reporter from the German Television Ceyhan Caidol said “I saw that the Syrian youths are optimistic and eager to participate in the elections because they feel that there will be real solutions to their problems. In addition, I noticed that a lot of women are running for the elections… I can say that the crisis in Syria united the Syrians who reject extremism.”

Another comment on the elections was made by Director of the NBN television channel Ghanem Sharafeddin, who said that the Syrian people want to tell the world that they are able to decide their homeland’s fate.

“Covering the current parliamentary elections is an essential factor to make the world see what is going on in Syria,” Assistant of the Secretary General of the Islamic Radios Union Naser Akhdar said.

He indicated that the western media turn a blind eye to the will of the Syrian society.

Reporter of Fares news agency (FNA) in Syria Wahid Samdi sees that the parliamentary elections will positively affect the talks to be held in Geneva as they [elections] will prove the Syrian people’s support for the government delegation through completing the constitutional requirement on time.

This view point was elaborated more by the Egyptian reporter Amro Nasef, who said that holding the parliamentary elections on time is a victory from a political viewpoint and it comes within the challenges Syria has faced since 2011.

It is noteworthy that the Syrian Information Ministry invited reporters from all world countries to take part in covering the parliamentary elections in Syria.

Some 3500 candidates are running for the country’s 250-seat parliament.
