MOSCOW, (ST)- Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Special Representative for the Middle East and North Africa Michael Bogdanov has announced Russia’s support for President Bashar Al-Assad’s proposal on setting up national unity government in Syria.

In a statement to the Russian “Interfax” news agency, Bogdanov stressed that Russia is committed to the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) agreements and to the provisions of the UN Security Council resolution No. 2254.

“We support the provisions of Resolution No. 2254 and the decisions of the ISSG..everything is written and detailed in those documents.” Bogdanov said, pointing out that Moscow backs President Al-Assad’s proposal on forming a national unity government in Syria comprising representatives of the Syrian authorities, opposition and some independent members.

Bogdanov pointed out that talks between the Syrian government and opposition aim at creating a transitional government that is acceptable to both sides.
