West’s divide and ruin project in Syria defeated: Commentator

Press TV has conducted an interview with Sukant Chandan, a political commentator and filmmaker, and Jim Walsh, with the Security Studies Program at MIT, to discuss recent political developments in Syria.

Chandan says imperialism’s project of “divide and ruin” — which aimed to conduct a pro-Western regime change in Syria — has been defeated.

He says that peace, stability and prosperity is returning back to the war-torn country thanks to the victories of the Syrian government.

The commentator says the United States and the UK are “the greatest purveyors” of genocide and war in the world.

“There is no denying that the US, UK, France and others have been supporting these depraved, looting, mutilating, raping militias and death squads into Syria like they have in Libya,” Chandan says.

“You can see the Syrian government and their partners are part of the solution. They are bringing peace and stability and law and order and a much more dignified existence for the people in Palmyra and other territories they are liberating much more than these depraved death squads,” he says.

Walsh, for his part, believes Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is probably feeling good about recent victories on the ground, which, the analyst claims, is going to make him “less enthusiastic” about political compromise.
