President al-Assad receives congratulatory cable from Shamkhani on Palmyra recapture from terrorists

Damascus – President Bashar al-Assad on Monday received a congratulatory cable from Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani, congratulating him on recapturing Palmyra city from ISIS terrorist organization.

In his cable, Shamkhani stressed that the insistence of the Syrian people, army and government on ridding the Syrian land of terrorist organizations and Takfiri groups is a source of pride, reiterating his country’s continuous support for Syria and the axis of resistance against terrorism, SANA reported.

“Syria is the first confrontation frontline against terrorism,” he said, calling on international organizations and some countries which rant about fighting terrorism to render support to the Syrian leadership and to have their efforts focused on fighting terrorism instead of polishing the image of some terrorist organizations and engaging them in the Syrian-Syrian talks.

Shamkhani said Syria has offered a successful example of resistance in the face of proxy wars and conspiracies. “We hope that restoring security and stability to Syria will help enhance this country’s development on the international arena,” he added.

The General Command of the Army and Armed Forces announced in a statement on Sunday restoring security and stability to Palmyra city after a series of “precise and effective” military operations.
