Al-Jaafari-Mogherini Talks Stress Importance of Cooperation with Syrian Government in Terrorism Fighting

GENEVA, (ST)-Head of the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Intra-Syrian dialogue in Geneva Bashar Al-Jaafari said he held objective talks with the European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief Feredica Mogherini at the delegation’s residence in Geneva.

In a press conference on Wednesday following the talks, al-Jaafari said “discussions focused on the importance of cooperation with the Syrian government in the fight against terrorism and on the need for lifting the sanctions imposed by the European Union on the Syrian people.”

He added that “Mogherini came to urge positive engagement by all parties in the Intra-Syrian indirect talks as to guarantee an end to the crisis in Syria.”

 

He asserted that the European Union can play a positive role in giving the Geneva talks a push forward.

Mogherini-De Mistura Meeting

Mogherini also held talks with de Mistura during which she stressed the EU’s support for de Mistura’s efforts to make the intra-Syrian dialogue in Geneva a success.

During a joint press conference following the talks, Mogherini said the threats facing Europe and other parts of the world are because of the existence of “”ISIS” terrorist organization in Syria.  

She affirmed the need of making the agreement on the “cessation of hostilities” in Syria a success.

“We seek successful political process to serve the interests of all and the European Union will be greatly effective in supporting the United Nations’ efforts to solve the crisis in Syria, Mogherinin said.     

De Mistura, on his part, reiterated that “triumph over terrorism necessitates that  we should make the political process in Syria a success.”

“All countries have common interest to eliminate terrorism and find a solution to the crisis in Syria.
