GENEVA — UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura hopes that Russia’s decision to withdraw main part of its forces from Syria will give an impetus to the new round of the intra-Syrian talks that started on Monday in Geneva.
“The announcement by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the very day of the beginning of this round of intra-Syrian talks is a significant development, which we hope will have a positive impact on the progress of negotiations aimed at a political solution, ” de Mistura said in a statement, according to Sputnik news.
