DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Arab League (AL) decision to classify Hizbollah as a terrorist organization proves the AL’s political bankruptcy and indicates the disability and confusion of the Saudi regime, Information Minister Omran al-Zou’bi has stressed.
“This decision is a death blow to the Arab League,” al-Zou’bi said in a phone call with al- Manar TV last night, adding that the decision never surprises real Moslems or resistant Arabs, particularly in the light of the policy which has been adopted by Saudi Arabia in the region since its foundation.
The minister went on to say that “if Hezbollah and the Popular Mobilization Forces (al-Hashd al-Shaabi) in Iraq are terrorists in the eyes of the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council, this means, in the Saudi logic, that ISIL and Jabhet al-Nusra are movements of peace, construction, resistance, and civilization.”
“By seeking the adoption of such a decision, the Saudi regime thinks that it is achieving political gain in the region, while in fact it is losing and enhancing the support of Moslems and Arabs around the world for resistance,” according to al-Zou’bi.
The AL decision came days after the Gulf Cooperation Council has adopted a similar one against Hizbollah.
Al-Zou’bi asserted that Syria has condemned the GCC decision as it serves the Zionist scheme in the region and amounts to the level of “political triviality and moral degradation.”
Commenting on Saudi Arabia and Turkey’s anti-Syria remarks, the minister said “no one can overthrow the Syrian state,” asserting that the remarks indicate that these countries have failed and that their schemes in the region are facing a deadlock.
The Foreign Ministers of the Arab League yesterday adopted a decision classifying Hizbollah as a terrorist organization. Lebanon and Iraq rejected the decision and Algeria reserved.
