DAMASCUS, (ST)- Eliminating terrorism, restoring security to the country and preserving Syria’s national unity and territorial integrity are the most important goals of the Syrian state, Presidential Political and Media Advisor Bouthaina Shaaban has reiterated.
Interviewed by the Lebanese al-Manar TV yesterday, Shaaban, who said that Syria was not worried about the fate of the intra Syrian dialogue in Geneva, stressed that from the very beginning of the crisis in the country the Syrian state has been serious about putting an end to violence and bloodshed and finding a political solution to the crisis.
She added that “the Syrian government respects the recently brokered Russian-US agreement on “cessation of hostilities” in Syria,” expressing hope that such an agreement would create proper environment for reconciliation nationwide.
Shaaban refuted reports by some media outlets claiming that there is contradiction between the Syrian policy and the Russian ally. She asserted “the relation between the two sides is excellent based on full respect…Everything is discussed, prepared and agreed on by both sides.”
The Presidential advisor pointed out that the US-Russian rapprochement was very important and that the shift in the US stance was made thanks to the steadfastness of the Syrian people and to the failure of Syria’s enemies in achieving their schemes.
“Syria is heading towards victory, thanks to the sacrifices offered by the loyal people in the country,” Shaaban said.
She pointed out that Saudi Arabia and Turkey don’t have own agendas, rather they do what they are ordered to do by the United States and the Western countries. In addition, some parties in the “Syrian opposition” represent and serve the interests of the countries that send weapon and money to the terrorists and mercenaries to kill the Syrians and destroy the institutions, she said, asking “should we call those people opposition?”
On the People’s Assembly elections due on April 13th 2016, Shaaban said “the process is a constitutional right and duty of the Syrian people and no one can stop this process,” pointing out that Syrian enemies’ media campaign against the elections aims at creating constitutional vacuum in Syria.
