UNSC, Chile, Spain, Argentina Condemn Terror Blasts in Syria

Capitals, (ST)-The U.N. Security Council has condemned recent terrorists attacks in Syria claimed by the so-called “Islamic State” (ISIL or IS) terrorist organization and is urging all countries to implement U.N. resolutions aimed at preventing the recruitment and travel of what it called “would-be fighters” seeking to join the extremist ISIL, the al-Qaida branch in Syria known as the Nusra Front and other terrorist groups, media reports said.

The council on Tuesday also condemned the impact of “violent extremist ideology and actions” on the stability of Syria, neighboring countries and the region.

The ISIL attacks in Homs and Damascus on Sunday claimed the lives of more than 130 people and injured hundreds more.

Council members underscored the need to implement a U.N. resolution and a statement adopted by key nations in Munich outlining a path to settlement in Syria, including a “cessation of hostilities.” They urged a resumption of U.N.-sponsored negotiations as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the governments of Chile, Spain and Argentina expressed their strong condemnation of the terror attacks in Sayyeda Zeinab in Damascus Countryside and in al-Zahraa district in Homs, expressing their deep condolences to the families of the victims.

In a statement, the government of Chile stressed that the unjustified and coward terror acts aimed at hindering international efforts to reach a peaceful settlement to the crisis in Syria without foreign dictates.

The Spanish government demanded that all perpetrators be put to justice as soon as possible.

It called for political solution to the crisis in Syria and urged all concerned parties to implement the agreed upon ceasefire agreement that excludes extremist organizations classified by the UNSC as terrorist groups.

On its part, the Argentinean Foreign Ministry stressed Argentina’s strong willingness to enhance the fight against terrorism as to preserve international peace and security.
