Syrian government systematically works upon enhancing youth’s participation in environmental health.
Within this project, a training workshop for youth started Sunday under the slogan: “increasing environmental awareness and implementing initiatives to protect environment”.
Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs in cooperation with the Revolutionary Youth Union (RYU) and the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) held the five-day workshop in Damascus in which 70 young persons from the RYU branches in Lattakia, Tarous, Sweida and Daraa provinces are taking part.
“The workshop is very important for training youth on active participation in protecting environment and consolidating the principle of environmental citizenship as well as encouraging them to join voluntary works,” Nazira Sarkis, Minister of State for Environmental Affairs said during the opening ceremony of the workshop.
While Head of the RYU’s voluntary work office Solina Hamadeh indicated that 210 young persons from all provinces will be trained to empower them to take part in increasing environmental awareness.
On January 20, the State Ministry for Environment Affairs draw up an environmental strategy to deal with the negative effects of the five-year-old war on the country.
