Al-Jaafari: Turkish Regime Should be Held Accountable for Shelling Syrian Areas
NEW YORK, (ST)-The Turkish regime should be held accountable for shelling Syrian areas, Syria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations Bashar Al-Jaafari has said pointing out that Turkey is trying to push all parties towards more escalation in Syria.
Talking to reporters following a Security Council session yesterday night, requested by Russia to discuss the Turkish attacks on Syrian lands, al-Jaafari said “the consensus of the Security Council members, including the allies and sponsors of the wrong Turkish policies towards Syria, on fear and concern over the Turkish irresponsible behavior and aggressive acts against Syria, is rare and significant”.
He added “Syria has sent over the past years hundreds of letters to the Security Council on the Turkish government’s direct involvement in sponsoring terrorism in Syria through supporting “ISIL” terrorist organization, allowing access to Gulf-funded mercenaries from all over the world into Syria and buying oil, gas and artifacts from ISIL and other terrorist groups in Syria.”
Al-Jaafari stressed that the “Syrian government holds the Turkish regime responsible for all these aggressive acts and will continue to put pressure on the Security Council as to act properly and adopt tangible procedures by holding the Turkish regime responsible for the ongoing huge escalation in the region; an escalation that may threatens the world peace and security.”
The Syrian diplomat referred to Turkey’s collusion along with Saudi Arabia and Qatar against Syria and its allies, stressing that “the countries supporting terrorists in Syria are suffering a hysteria attack because of the achievements of the Syrian Arab Army at all fronts”.
He said that the Turkish regime has allowed terrorists to smuggle the deadly Sarin gas to the Syrian territories, pointing out that this information was reported to the Security Council members and that “the terrorism supporting countries won’t hesitate in using any kind of illegitimate weapon to harm the reputation of the Syrian government and its allies.”
“We have reliable information that the so-called US-led coalition has hit a hospital in northern Syria, but as usual, the easiest way to them is to launch anti-Syria media campaign to accuse the Syrian government and its Russian ally of being behind the hospital attack”, al-Jaafari said.
He noted that the hospital was established in Syria without any prior consultation with the Syrian government by the French network called (Doctors without Borders), which is a branch of the French intelligence. “These parties are responsible for the consequences of their acts because they didn’t consult with the Syrian government and worked without Damascus permission,” he said.
In reply to a question on his optimism about the possibility of implementing a ceasefire agreement by the end of the week as announced in Munich meeting, al-Jaafari said “ceasefire will take more time than a week and those who met in Munich should be practical, because no one can guarantee that the terrorists will stop and respect the alleged ceasefire.”
“Those who met in Munich should rather put more pressure on Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the regimes of France and Britain to stop their support for terrorism and implement the Security Council resolutions Nos. 2170, 2178, 2199 and 2253, al-Jaafari stressed.
