A symposium entitled “Golan.. The people’s will and the homeland’s cause” was held Sunday in al-Assad Library in Damascus on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the open strike staged by the Syrian citizens in the Israel- occupied Syrian Golan in 1982 to reject the Israeli identity and the Golan annexation decision.
Several speeches were made during the symposium that zeroed in on the meaning of defending the Syrian Arab identity in the occupied Golan, Israel’s oppressive practices, the International Law, and counter terrorism.
Member of the Baath Arab Socialist Party’s Regional Leadership Khalaf al-Miftah said that Intifada of the Golan people proved that the Syrian people is able to foil the US-Zionist plot in the region.
He praised the heroic stances of the occupied Golan people and their adherence to the Syrian Arab identity.
“It is important to consolidate the culture of resistance to confront the Zionist enemy , which only knows the language of force,” al-Miftah said, asserting that the West and the Zionist entity [Israel] are trying to fragment the countries in the region and to uproot the national thinking and identities.
On his part, the journalist Samir Abo Saleh said that some Arab media outlets kept tight-lipped about the struggle of the Golan people against occupation.
“Dozens of Syrians were martyred inside and outside the occupied Golan during the armed struggle and peaceful one “
“Terrorism school”
The oppressive practices of the Israeli occupation authorities against the Syrian people in the occupied Golan, such as building settlements and displacing people, reflect that Israel is the core of the ‘terrorism school’, according to the Naeem Aqbiq, a Legal Advisor in the Syrian Civil Commission of Victims of Violence and Terrorism.
This idea was elaborated more by the Chairperson of the Ahfad Ashtar Institute Aysaral-Midani, who said that terrorism started at the beginning of the last century when the Zionist gangs were formed and worked on destroying Palestine.
She called for imposing sanctions on the Israeli occupation, boycotting its products and forming popular committees in Syria to support the Golan people.
During the symposium, a documentary was screened on the struggle of the Golan people against occupation.
The Golan people staged a six-month long strike in 1982 to defend their national identity.
