Detection of Mosaic Tableau in Shahba

SWEIDA (ST) – The Head of the Department of Sweida Antiquities confirmed that a team of specialists in the department recently revealed for a mosaic tableau in the old town of Shaba. The tableau was found by a citizen in the land of his house and informed the authorities of its existence.

The head of the department, Hussein Zeineddin, said that the dimensions of the paintingrange between 3 and 4 meters. It backs to the Roman era in the mid-third century AD.

“The parts that have been detected from the painting represent drawings of a peacock surrounded by a number of geometric flora and fauna, pointing out those parts of mosaic drawings were found in the same area at the beginning of the sixties of the last century.

These parts are currently displayed at the National Museum of Shaba,” Mr.Zeineddin explained.

The Shaba museum includes a number of mosaics which is one of the most beautiful and rare mosaics in the world and a number of them still in excellent condition and located in its original location and each panel represents an ancient Greek myth.
