Iran, Russia Affirm Syrian People’s Legitimate Right to Decide Own Destiny without Foreign Intervention or Terrorists’ Participation
MOSCOW – Iran and Russia have renewed common views on a comprehensive political solution to crisis in Syria and stressed the legitimate rights of the Syrian people to decide their own destiny without any foreign intervention and without the participation of terrorist groups.
Russia’s Special Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev and Senior Adviser of Leader of the Iranian Revolution for International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati in a meeting in Moscow on Tuesday discussed crisis in Syria and affirmed the need to attain political settlement in the country by the Syrian themselves based on Syrian-Syrian dialogue.
Velayati and Lavrentiev also discussed mutual cooperation within the framework of quadrilateral cooperation between Iran, Russia, Iraq and Syria against the “ISIL” terrorist organization, according to the Iranian media.
Velayati embarked on an official visit to Russia at the invitation of the head of the Russian Strategic Studies Institute.
He has already met with senior Russian officials on Monday.
Earlier today, Velayati said Tehran and Moscow have adopted common stands on Syria.
Speaking to reporters, Velayati said the two sides’ officials are now mulling current developments in the Middle East region.
Relations between Tehran and Moscow throughout history have been very unprecedented and grounds for expansion of all-out mutual, regional and defense cooperation have been developed, he said.
Coalition made between Iran, Russia, Iraq and Syria is now bearing fruits, he said.
