Syria-Iraq Cooperation to Eliminate Terrorism Necessary: Iraqi President

BAGHDAD, (ST)-The Syrian-Iraqi full cooperation to eliminate terrorism is very important, said Iraqi President Fuad Masum yesterday, hailing the strong brotherly relations linking between the Syrian and Iraqi peoples.

During his meeting with Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham on the sideline of the conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member States (PUIC) held in Baghdad, President Masum said “our hearts are with Syria and it necessary to have full cooperation between the two countries as to eliminate terrorism and the criminals and gangs of al-Qaeda and Daesh.” He expressed confidence that Syria and Iraq will achieve victory over the terrorists who adopt killing, destruction and takfirism as an ideology.

“The Syrians are active people. They can rise again and rebuild their country,” he stressed.

On his part, al-Lahham, asserted the need for cooperation and coordination between Syria and Iraq to fight the foreign-backed terrorism which is killing innocent people in Syria and Iraq and destroy the thousands of years-old civilization in these two countries.

Al-Lahhan condemned the policy of interference in the internal affairs of Syria and Iraq adopted by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey.
