Russia, China Discuss Political Solution to Crisis in Syria

MOSCOW, (ST)- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov discussed with Chinese Ambassador to Russia Lu Hui issue relating to finding political solution to the crisis in Syria and to the inter-Syrian talks between the Syrian government and the opposition scheduled on January 25th in Geneva.

In a statement on Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said “the two sides exchanged opinions on current Middle East and North Africa issues with special focus on the situation in Syria and the question of attaining political settlement of the crisis in the country through launching the talks scheduled to be held between the Syrian government and the opposition in Geneva under the supervision of the United Nations and in accordance with international Resolution No. 2254.

 

According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Russia and the United States are not planning to postpone the inter-Syrian talks till February.

“Many days are left till the end of January. We are not thinking of postponing the start of the talks from January till February. This is the position of the US and Russia,” Lavrov said after the talks with US Secretary of State John Kerry.
