Culture Ministry’s plan for 2016

Ministry of Culture plans to establish cultural capitals in Syrian provinces, develop creativity movement and disseminate national awareness among people, according to the strategy of the ministry for 2016.

The strategy, which was discussed Tuesday by directors of culture in Syria, aims to attract the widest possible people to follow up the cultural activities to be held in universities, educational institutes and cultural centers.

Deputy Culture Minister Tawfiq al-Imam, who chaired Tuesday’s meeting, declared that the future plan of the ministry attaches great importance to youth activities and seeks to empower woman, integrate the People with Special need into society and explain the principles of national reconciliation, tolerance and volunteer work.

He underlined the need for cementing cooperation with civil society to activate cultural movement and to develop the mechanism of protecting antiquities and rehabilitating the damaged archaeological sites.

As for cultural capitals in Syrian provinces, al-Imam said: “Damascus will be the capital of music, Aleppo will be cinema capital, Homs will be story capital, Hama will be Art capital, Tartous will be poetry capital, Daraa will be Arabic calligraphy capital, Lattakia will be novel capital, Quneitra will be resistance literature capital and Hasaka will be Literary criticism capital.”

On his part, the second deputy culture minister Bassam Abo Ghannam referred to the project of selecting Damascus as a creative city in cooperation with the UNESCO, asking directorates of culture to launch cultural campaigns to limit immigration.
