After Execution of Cleric Al-Nimr, Al Saud Regime Severs Diplomatic Ties with Iran

RIYADH, (ST)-The Regime of Al Saud has severed diplomatic ties with Iran under the pretext of what it called “attack” on the Saudi embassy in Tehran and because of the Iranian stance on Saudi Arabia’s execution of cleric Nimr Baqer al-Nimr.

On Saturday, the Saudi regime in cold blood committed a massacre against Saudi nationals by executing 47 people including Sheikh al-Nimr who had been detained since 2012. The massacre is a new crime against freedoms and human rights added to Al-Saud’s record of human rights violations.

The crime raised wide Arab and international condemnation.

AFP quoted the Saudi Foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir as saying in a press conference yesterday that his country announced the severing of diplomatic ties with Iran and demanded that all the staff of the Iranian diplomatic mission leave the kingdom within 48 hours.

Sheik al-Nimr was arrested in 1012 because of his calls for reforms, civil rights, discrimination and religious tolerance in Saudi Arabia.

The reactionary Saudi regime, which lacks even the minimum level of democracy, launched crackdown on protests and demonstrations, erupted in the Saudi eastern region in 2011 to demand reforms. Hundreds were killed and detained in the campaign.
