DAMASCUS, (ST)-Syria has cancelled the agreement on mutual entry visa exemption the Syrian government had signed with Turkey. The procedure was taken to stress the principle of national sovereignty and in reciprocation of Turkey’s decision to cancel the same agreement.
In a statement of which SANA got a copy on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said “on December 9th, 2015, the Turkish government unilaterally cancelled the agreement on mutual entry visa exemption that was signed between the two countries on October 13th, 2009.” According to the agreement’s items, actual cancellation is to be applied 30 days after the decision.”
The ministry added “to stress the principle of national sovereignty and pursuant to the principle of reciprocity, the Syrian government decided to cancel the above mentioned agreement from its side and not to allow Turkish nationals to enter Syria without a visa entry.
“Syria holds the Turkish government responsible for the repercussions and impacts of this procedure on the people of Syria and Turkey,” the ministry said.
