Two suicide bombers detonated their explosive belts on Thursday in the area of Borj al-Barajneh in Beirut Southern suburb, leaving at least 41 martyrs and 211 injured.
Media reports mentioned that the explosions occurred in Ain al-Sikkeh street and that the first suicide bomb was carried out 5 minutes earlier and 20 meters away from the second one.
The Lebanese army issued a statement in which it indicated that two suicide bombers blew themselves up on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Ain al-Sikkeh street in Borj al-Barajneh in Beirut Southern Suburb and that the dead body of a third terrorist who failed to blow himself up was found on the scene of the second blast.
The Internal Security Forces said two men on foot set off suicide vests in front of a shopping center.
According to eyewitnesses, the blasts happened around 6 p.m. when the area gets overcrowded with the worshippers and the shoppers.
The Lebanese army and the security forces cordoned off the scene as the ambulances rushed to rescue the victims and move them to the area’s hospitals.
The reports added that the explosive belt used by one of the suicide bombers did not detonate completely.
ISIL terrorist group claimed responsibility for the twin suicide blasts and posted the names of 3 suicide bombers.
Iran slams Beirut twin terror blasts
Iranian Foreign Ministry on Thursday strongly condemned Thursday’s fatal twin terrorist bombing attacks on southern Lebanese capital which claimed the lives and injured scores of civilians.
Spokesman HosseinJaberi Ansari in a statement sympathized with the bereaved families of martyrs, as well as the Lebanese nation and government.
The spokesman also expressed hope that with the solidarity of Lebanon’s nation, resistance movement, and army and the firm determination of the international community in the fight against terrorism, the ground for active and effective encountering against the terrorists and extremists will be prepared.
